Ravindra Jadeja's hopes of playing in the ongoing Indian Premier League III were dealt a severe blow after the ban imposed on him for contractual violations was upheld by IPL governing council-appointed one-man committee.

IPL'S CEO Sundar Raman said the committee chairman and eminent lawyer Arun Jaitley, who is also the president of the Delhi and District Cricket Assoaciation, rejected Jadeja's appeal and also reprimanded Mumbai Indians for showing interest in signing the all-rounder midway through his contract with Rajasthan Royals. "Jadeja's ban upheld for 2010 IPL Season," Sundar Raman wrote on his Twitter page. "Chairman Mr Jaitley filed the report. MI (Mumbai Indians) reprimanded."

The IPL's governing council had banned Jadeja for one season after the player failed to sign the renewal contract with Rajasthan Royals for the ongoing season and attempted to negotiate a new contract with Mumbai Indians.

Following the ban, the Jaipur franchise wrote to the IPL referring to the role of Mumbai Indians in the episode, which forced the Twenty20 league to discuss the matter and order a full-fledged inquiry. PTI
