IND vs NAM Live Cricket Score Updates: Second innings underway, India looking for early wickets

IND vs NAM Live Cricket Score Updates: Namibia finished well with the ball as India lost five wickets in the last four overs. The hosts posted 209 runs on the board and that should be enough against inexperienced Namibia but the batting concerns however, remain.

New Delhi:

Namibia produced a brilliant bowling show to end the first innings. They conceded just 25 runs in the final four overs and clinched five wickets in the same time frame. For India, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya stole the show. After Kishan departed for 61 runs off 24 balls, Hardik Pandya kept up with the momentum, smacking a 27- balls haf-century at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Kishan’s carnage set the momentum for the hosts, who also registered the fastest-ever 100 in T20 World Cup history. Meanwhile, Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh struggled heavily in the middle, which is a concern but Pandya’s knock has kept the pressure off. Meanwhile, as Abhishek Sharma is currently out with illness, Sanju Samson earned a spot in the playing XI. Playing against Namibia, it was a perfect opportunity for him to establish himself. However, the keeper-batter failed to get going, scoring 22 runs off eight balls. Ben Shikongo got the better of him in the middle.

For Namibia, it’s an opportunity to make a statement in world cricket. The USA put the Indian team under pressure and there’s no reason why Namibia can’t do it. They suffered a defeat to the Netherlands in their opening game and there’s of course, room for improvement, particularly in the batting department. The Gerhard Erasmus-led side lacked intent in the middle, which became problematic in the end. Against India, who play an aggressive brand of cricket, Namibia need to change the approach.

The surface, in the meantime, will heavily favour the batters. A high-scoring match is expected and the dew is likely to play a huge role in the second innings.

Squads:

India Squad: Ishan Kishan (wk), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav (c), Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Sanju Samson, Washington Sundar

Namibia Squad: Louren Steenkamp, Jan Frylinck, Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, Gerhard Erasmus (c), JJ Smit, Zane Green (wk), Ruben Trumpelmann, Dylan Leicher, Willem Myburgh, Bernard Scholtz, Max Heingo, Malan Kruger, Ben Shikongo, Jack Brassell, Jan Balt

    Delhi pitch report

"It's a bit quiet at the moment here at the Arun Jaitley Stadium but with India playing again tonight this place is going to rock. It'll be absolutely fever pitch, and it'll be a great night out, whatever happens for the men from Namibia. Now in terms of where this pitch is located, it's a slight bias if I'm standing at this end here to my right, which is a slightly longer boundary. The left is just cut around 59 to 60 over there. There's a hit of about 73 metres down the ground. But the interesting thing for me, because the batters are so good at using ramp shots and scoop shots, these are quite small, these dimensions down here (behind the wicket). I think I'll try and get this one right. I'm going to go the same way, Smithy. It looks flat. It looks well. There's a nice little sheen on it as well. I think it's going to come through nicely. I don't think we're gonna see a huge amount of that bounce, but I think we'll see it coming on to the bat quite nicely. I covered the game here a couple of days ago, but it was a day game, and we started at 11 o'clock, and there was a little bit of moisture. And because of that, we saw a little bit holding in the surface and a little bit of turn. Now, there's 2.3 degrees of turn in that first game, which actually topped the list of all the venues we've had so far. But that is just a small sample size, and I think that was down to the moisture in the surface on the morning. Good surface, a few cracks that you can see, but they're not moving. Get your bat out. The other thing to look out for is dew. Evening dew. This is a night game, and I covered a lot of India versus New Zealand not long ago, and dew was a factor when it came to the toss. We'll wait and see. There's a bit of a breeze around that night, so it'll negate it a wee bit. But there's a lot of things to consider for this match." - inform Ian Smith and Nick Knight.

No Abhishek Sharma, what could it mean for India?

India's second game in the World Cup, and no Abhishek Sharma. It is worth noting that the star batter was dismissed on a golden duck in his last game, but he remains one of the most important members in the side, and it could be interesting to see how Sanju Samson would fare in Abhishek's absence.

Since the 2024 T20 World Cup, Varun Chakaravarthy has claimed 58 wickets in 31 matches, which is the highest tally by any bowler in the format during this period. Can he keep up with the same intensity on a batting-friendly pitch?

    What's latest on Abhishek Sharma?

Abhishek Sharma was admitted to the hospital on the night of February 10. He was suffering from food poisoning. Tilak Varma, on February 11, informed that the southpaw has been released from the hospital but as things stand, he is unlikely to feature. It needs to be seen if he comes to the ground at all. In case he doesn't feature, Ishan Kishan will open alongside Sanju Samson.
