The Punjab government has decided to withdraw the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police that was awarded to India Women's T20 captain and Arjuna award winner Harmanpreet Kaur after her graduation degree turned out to be fake, according to media reports.

The government is reportedly of the view that they should appoint her as a police constable and later promote her to DSP when she fulfils the requisite educational qualification.

"The state government has written to Harmanpreet that since now her qualification can only be treated as Class XII, she can best be retained by the Punjab police as a constable," a senior government functionary in the Chief Minister's office told The Times of India on Monday.

The cricketer from Moga, whose stellar innings against Australia steered India into the ICC Women's World Cup final, was awarded the rank of DSP by the Punjab government on March 1 this year and thus it is a case of major embarrassment as they have withdrawn it within just four months.

Kaur had scored 171 not out from 115 balls in the semi-final against Australia powering the Indian team into the Women's World Cup finals, which they lost narrowly to England.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, while awarding her, had said he was sure that the boys and girls of Punjab would be inspired by her to excel in sports.
