Cheteshwar Pujara made his landmark 50th Test appearance a special one as he reached to 4000 runs in the longest format of the game on Day 1 of the second Test against Sri Lankan in Colombo. Pujara became the third quickest Indian cricketer to touch landmark in 84 Test innings. He now jointly holds the record with Rahul Dravid who achieved the feat in a similar number of innings. Virender Sehwag and Sunil Gavaskar share the record for scoring the fastest 4000 runs in 81 Test innings.
India thumped Sri Lanka in the first Test at Galle by a mammoth 304 runs to lead the three-match Test series by 1-0. In the last Test, Pujara scored a scintillating hundred in the first innings that helped the visitors to put massive first innings total against the hosts.
Since making his debut for India against Australia in Bangalore in 2010, Cheteshwar Pujara has remained one of the most prolific run scorers for India in the longer format. Before the start of the Colombo Test, the 29-year old has scored 3966 runs in 49 Tests that includes 12 centuries and 15 fifties. His runs have come at an average of just over 52 which speaks a lot about his class and value in the Indian team.
At the time of writing, Pujara is batting on 68 not out vs Sri Lanka on the Day 1 of Colombo Test. He steadied the Indian innings after KL Rahul and Virat Kohli's dismissal.
