New Delhi: Actor Salman Khan's acquittal in 2002 hit-and-run road accident case found its way into a Lok Sabha discussion with questions being raised who was responsible for the poor man's death.

BJP MP from Darbhanga and former cricketer Kirti Azad on Wednesday asked whether it was a deer that was driving the vehicle.

In an apparent reference to Salman's trial in connection with killing of a black buck in Rajasthan, the BJP member said  “We see cases in courts nowadays where a man goes to jail for killing a deer but gets acquitted for crushing a man. This is the situation in our judicial system.”

While stressing on the need to improve the judicial system and bring in efficiency, Azad said, “I am not talking ill of  anyone, but I am talking of those judgments.

“One poor person died. Now, it is not known who was driving the car. Perhaps it was the deer who was driving," he said,
Azad said, "You are a good lawyer if you know the law. You are a great lawyer, if you know the judge," suggesting the need to have an Indian Judicial Service on the lines of IAS and IPS.

Shiv Sena MP Vinayak Raut echoed the same view, While directly referring to the actor, Raut said, “"The legal system is such that after 12 years Salman Khan has been acquitted. But the question is that on that night when the accident took place, someone died, so who is responsible for it? Who did it?,"

He claimed none tried to find out who killed the poor man. "It should not be a system where a death is left unanswered after the acquittal of Salman Khan," he said.

"When justice is given to someone, the job to trace the real culprit should be of the Judiciary and police department. This change in the system is necessary," Raut said.
