New Delhi: The Congress party will be releasing its first list of candidates for forthcoming assembly polls in Maharashtra on September 17.

According to sources, a decision on the ongoing tussle between the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) over seat sharing issue is expected today.

Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, who was on a trip abroad, will be arriving Delhi today.

Reports suggested that the NCP has lowered its demand from 144 to 132 seats whereas the Congress wants to give it 122-124 seats.

In 2009 assembly polls, the Congress had contested 174 and the NCP 114 seats.

Meanwhile, Congress party's election campaign chief and Industry Minister, Narayan Rane, will be contesting the polls from Kankavli in Sindhudurg district.

His son Nitesh Rane will enter poll fray from Kankavli constituency.

Polling in Maharashtra will take place on October 15. Counting of ballots is slated for October 19.
