Delhi govt defies Lokayukta, refuses to send report on Sheila Dikshit to President

New Delhi, Dec 12: Delhi government has turned down Delhi Lokayukta's request to send its report against Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to the President for review of an earlier decision in a case relating to

Then President Pratibha Patil in November last year had "advised" the Urban Development department, which is the nodal agency for construction of low cost flats, to exercise caution in making public announcements while rejecting the recommendation against Dikshit.

The government, in an action taken report tabled in the Delhi Assembly today, said there was no need to "resubmit" the report of the Lokayukta to the President for reconsideration.

In his order in July last year, Justice Sarin had held that Dikshit "misrepresented" to the public ahead of 2008 Assembly polls by saying that 60,000 flats were ready for handing over despite knowing well that the same were not ready, in order to "obtain gain or favour to herself or her political party."

Dikshit had rejected the allegations.
