Gill now has the highest score by an Indian captain in Tests as he broke Virat Kohli's record of 254. Gill now has the highest score by an Indian in England, the highest score by a captain in England and the fifth highest by any captain in England.

Kohli smashed an unbeaten 254 against South Africa in the second Test of the 2019 home series. India rode on Kohli's humongous knock to post a massive score of 601 runs and then win the game by an innings and 137 runs.

While Gill holds the record in Tests, Virender Sehwag has the highest individual score by an Indian captain in ODIs - not Ganguly, Kohli, Rohit or Dhoni. Sehwag was India's captain during that 2011 ODI series against the West Indies and was in exceptional form, becoming the second batsman to hit a 50-over double century, amassing 219.

This has been a tremendous start by Gill as the Indian Test captain, scoring big hundreds in his first two games. Yes, the lower order collapses and dropped catches hurt India in the first one, Gill will be determined to see his side through in this one as England have an uphill task on their hands.
