India’s longest expressway, spans over 1386kms, connects Delhi with Mumbai: Check route, travel time

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is a major expressway that connects India's capital Delhi to  Mumbai, spanning approximately 1380 km long and designed to significantly reduce travel time from 24 hours to around 12 hours.

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway features 8 lanes, passes through several states including Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat, and is being constructed as part of the government's "Bharatmala Pariyojana" initiative.

The striking features of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway include an advanced traffic management system and potential for dedicated electric vehicle lanes making it an "electric highway" with environmentally friendly considerations like rainwater harvesting along the route.

The foundation stone for the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway was laid by union minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari in the presence of Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley on 8 March 2019 and it was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The total project value of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway including the land acquisition cost is around Rs 1,00,000 crores. The whole project is expected to be completed by 2026.

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is maintained by NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) and is part of the Bharatmala yojana. The Mumbai to Delhi expressway route will pass through five states, including Haryana (129 km), Rajasthan (373 km), Madhya Pradesh (244 km), Gujarat (426 km) and Maharashtra (171 km).

Reports suggest that more than 15,000 hectares of land have been used across these five states to build the Delhi Mumbai expressway. The expressway will start from Gurgaon in Haryana and pass through Jaipur & Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan.
