Kipgen is BJP MLA from Kangpokpi Assembly constituency and previously helmed several ministries in the state government, including Commerce and Industry, Textiles and Cooperation, Social Welfare and Cooperation.

Several senior BJP leaders, including MLAs, from the state travelled to Delhi for a high-level meeting with the party’s central leadership, which took place just days before the second term of President’s rule in Manipur is set to conclude.

Manipur has been under President’s rule since February 13, 2025, following severe ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities. The central government extended the rule for six more months in August 2025.

The state plunged into political uncertainty after the resignation of the BJP-led government, headed by N Biren Singh, on February 9, 2025. Since then, the 60-member Manipur Assembly, which has its term until 2027, has remained under suspended animation.

Who is Nemcha Kipgen?

Nemcha Kipgen has represented Kangpokpi as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) since 2012. During the First Biren Singh ministry (2017–2020), she held the position of Minister for Social Welfare and Cooperation. In the Second Biren Singh ministry, she serves as the Cabinet Minister overseeing Commerce & Industry, Textiles, and Cooperation.

Belonging to the Kuki community, a tribal group in Manipur, Nemcha Kipgen is actively engaged in community activities and initiatives aimed at empowering youth in her constituency. She is married to ST Thangboi Kipgen, who is the chairman of the Kuki National Front.
