Islamabad: India and Pakistan should do away with their old thinking and take new measures for solution of problems and lasting peace in the region, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said today.

In a meeting with a visiting Pakistani media delegation in New Delhi, Khurshid said Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appeared to be sincere in improving relations with India.

The visit by Shahbaz Sharif - chief Minister of Punjab state - to India has given a new turn to bilateral ties.

Khurshid said both countries would have to find out new avenues for the resolution of water and all other problems, including Kashmir, Geo TV reported.

The Minister underlined the need to give further boost to bilateral trade ties in order to meet the requirements of the people of both Pakistan and India.

Referring to the Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline project, the report quoted him as saying that India was ready to take gas from Iran and Central Asia via Pakistan.
