Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong agreed to deepen the bilateral economic ties and build on defence cooperation as the two sides signed eight agreements.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a three-day visit to Singapore as part of his five-day three-nation South-East Asia visit, met President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana. Earlier in the day, PM Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Istana, the office of the President of the Republic of Singapore. Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was also present during the event.

PM Modi delivered the keynote address at the strategically important Shangri- La Dialogue a short while ago in Singapore. PM Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to deliver the keynote address at the International Institute for Strategic Studies Shangri-La Dialogue.

Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Modi visited the India-Singapore Enterprise and Innovation Exhibition at Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre and also viewed an exhibition of 30 startups from the two countries. The day-long exhibition, titled InSpreneur 2.0, is an initiative led by the Indian High Commission in Singapore.

While addressing the community-cum-business event named 'Anushasan' on Thursday at the Marina Bay Sand on Thursday, Prime Minister Modi termed India-Singapore’s bilateral relationship as “warmest and closest”. He also said that Singapore had become a partner and bridge between India and ASEAN". Addressing the Indian diaspora in Singapore, PM Modi said, "The course of India's centuries-old Silk route also ran through Singapore. The human link is deep and enduring, which lives in the Singaporean Indians." 

Earlier the Prime Minister visited Indonesia and Malaysia in the first leg of his five-day South-East Asia visit.
