Several vehicles were buried under a thick layer of snow on the Zojila Pass after an avalanche occurred in the Union territory of Ladakh, leaving two people dead.

At least two people were killed, and several others are feared trapped after an avalanche hit the Zero Point at Zojila Pass in Ladakh on Friday, officials said. Rescue operations were launched after 5 vehicles were buried under heavy snow.
Ganderbal Police, along with disaster management authorities, are conducting operations to rescue those trapped. At least people are believed to have been killed in the accident. The ill-fated vehicles were headed to Kargil from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir.
Reacting to the incident, Ladakh Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said he is personally monitoring the situation and government agencies, including disaster management and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) are engaged in relief and rescue operations.
"Heard the unfortunate news of an avalanche at Zoji La. I have directed the DC & SSP of Kargil to visit the spot immediately and mobilise relief and rescue operations. All government agencies including disaster relief forces and BRO have been put on high alert. I am personally monitoring the situation," Saxena wrote in a post on X.
