Siraz Ur Rahiman, a 29-year-old resident of Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram, has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody following his arrest on charges related to a terror plot. The arrest was made under Section 152 and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) at the Vizianagaram II Town police station, as confirmed by the Vizianagaram Superintendent of Police.

Rahiman, an engineering graduate, was apprehended after a joint operation by the counter-intelligence units of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Authorities seized explosive materials, including ammonia, sulphur, and aluminium powder, from his possession. Investigations revealed that Rahiman had procured these substances online and had conducted a trial of a homemade improvised explosive device (IED) in a forested area near Rampachodavaram.

Police are probing the suspect's possible links to banned terror organisations including the Popular Front of India (PFI), Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI). The accused have been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for conspiring to commit terrorist acts and disturbing public order.

Reacting to the development, Andhra Pradesh Health Minister and BJP leader Satya Kumar Yadav stated, "I have received several news reports over time regarding terrorist activities and sleeper cells. For many days now, the BJP has been alert to the presence of terrorist sleeper cells operating around Hyderabad and in certain areas of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu."

He added, "These ongoing activities are linked to organisations like PFI, SIMI, and SDPI. We have always emphasised the importance of maintaining strict surveillance on these groups. We strongly believe there are elements of ISIS present in the southern states, which is a matter of serious concern."
