IndiGo flight makes emergency landing in Varanasi after fuel leak alert
An IndiGo flight travelling from Kolkata to Srinagar made an emergency landing at Varanasi’s Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport on Wednesday after the pilot reported a suspected fuel leak.
According to officials, flight 6E-6961 was diverted mid-air when the pilot noticed a possible technical issue and immediately contacted Air Traffic Control in Varanasi for permission to land.
All passengers evacuated safely
The aircraft touched down safely at around 4:10 pm, and all 166 passengers on board were evacuated safely.
Police from the Gomti Zone confirmed that the pilot had reported a fuel leakage during the flight, prompting the precautionary landing. However, airline sources later suggested that a malfunctioning sensor might have caused a false alarm rather than an actual leak.
After landing, passengers were escorted to the arrival hall, while IndiGo’s engineering team began a detailed inspection of the aircraft to determine the cause of the issue. The airline assured that passenger safety was never compromised.
