Ramdev narrates his ordeal: UK immigration officers detained me for 8 hours saying there was a red alert

London: Yoga guru Swami Ramdev was made to wait for nearly eight hours at London's Heathrow airport by UK immigration officers, who rummaged through his bags and 'jhola' saying there was a red alert about

"They first kept me waiting on a chair for three hours outside the Immigration room, and then took me inside and asked me to sit in a room for more than four hours. Throughout the wait, I asked the immigration officers to at least let me know if I had committed mistakes, but they remained silent.

"When I asked them what red alert it was about me, they were again silent. I told them that I had been part of a movement against corruption, black money and was for change in system. They asked me, for how many days I have come, and I told them that I would stay for five days in UK and then go to the US."

Ramdev rubbished reports that said that he was carrying medicines which were unlicensed and that he was accosted by Customs officers. "No Customs officers approached me, nor was I carrying any medicines".

"I also showed the immigration officers the trusts that I had in the UK and US", he added.

Ramdev has been summoned for questioning by Immigration at 2 pm local time on Saturday.

As the ordeal went on, nearly 150 supporters waiting for him outside the Heathrow airport became restless and a flurry of phone calls ensued.

UK immigration officials were tightlippped about the entire incident. This was the first time Ramdev was detained at London airport. He had travelled to UK several times but was never detained, said S K Tijarawala, his close aide.

Swami Ramdev is in London for a four-day yoga camp after which he will leave for Chicago, where the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda is being organized.

Swami Ramdev will address a congregation in the same auditorium where Swami Vivekananda addressed the World Parliament of Religions 120 years ago.
