On the no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "We're ready for debate. We're ready to respond to all the Congress's frivolous arguments. Two days have been allotted for this issue alone. Under Rahul Gandhi's leadership, there is no regard for the dignity of Parliament, the traditions of the House, or the respect for the Speaker's post. You are already making a mockery of your own party. Your party is on the verge of collapse, and I'll tell the opposition, please stop following Rahul Gandhi. They have literally hijacked the entire House."

Lok Sabha proceedings were disrupted and adjourned until 3 PM on Monday (March 9) amid raucous opposition protests demanding a full debate on the West Asia crisis. As External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stood to deliver his statement on the regional turmoil, opposition MPs erupted in slogans against the government, rejecting the ministerial brief in favor of comprehensive discussion. Chair Jagadambika Pal rebuked the tactics, noting that placard-waving queries were already being addressed at length by the government, even as a pending no-confidence resolution against Speaker Om Birla loomed on the agenda alongside the contentious West Asia push.

Kiren Rijiju will initiate the discussion on the proposal to remove Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla from his position. Key BJP members slated to speak include- Anurag Thakur, Nishikant Dubey, Ravi Shankar Prasad, and Bhartruhari Mahtab.

In a pointed critique during Rajya Sabha proceedings, BJP leader JP Nadda condemned the opposition's conduct as utterly irresponsible, accusing them of staging a walkout precisely when it was time for the government to respond. "The opposition is behaving irresponsibly—they are walking out when it's our turn to answer," Nadda remarked, highlighting their reluctance to engage in substantive debate amid heated exchanges. This outburst underscores escalating tensions in Parliament's Budget Session, where disruptions have marred key discussions on national issues.

India remains in favour of peace, return to dialogue and diplomacy; advocate de-escalation, restraint, ensuring safety of civilians. Contacts with Iran at the leadership level are obviously difficult at this time; I have spoken to Iranian Foreign Minister, said EAM Dr S Jaishankar.

The BJP and the Congress have issued a three-line whip to their Lok Sabha MPs, directing them to be present in the House till Tuesday. The first part of the Budget Session began on 28th January and continued till 13th of February. During the first phase, the discussion took place on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address and the Union Budget for 2026-27.
