UP Minister AK Sharma said, "On the occasion of Basant Panchmi... close to 4 crore people have taken a dip here since yesterday... We are continuously monitoring the situation here. I have been present here to inspect the arrangements since the occasion of Mauni Amavasya...  Once again I invite everybody to come here since only a few days of the Maha Kumbh are left... This is the Maha Kumbh of modern India, digital India... Yesterday, I inspected the monitoring of traffic management and cleanliness protocols..."

Saints and devotees take a holy dip at Triveni Sangam as flower petals are showered on them from a chopper, on the occasion of Basant Panchami.

Mahakumbh ADM Chandrapal Tiwari said, "... All devotees came here and took a holy dip. On orders of the administration, flower petals were showered on devotees at Airavat Ghat, Arail Ghat, Saraswati Ghat, and Nagvasuki Temple. Flowers were showered on Akharas participating in the Amrit Snan on Sangam Ghat."

Amrit Abhijaat, Principal Secretary Urban Development UP, said on preparations made on Basant Panchami. "We learned from the last experience. We were facing difficulties in disposing waste materials like bottles, flowers, clothes, or sleepers through machines that people leave behind. Now, we have deployed people who are collecting the waste manually… Mela administration has received a good workforce in terms of monitoring. Apart from this, street vendors have been allotted specific areas."

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has appealed to the devotees to follow the instructions of the administration. He asked the devotees coming to Prayagraj to take bath peacefully. He has also given strict instructions to the officials that any kind of negligence will not be tolerated.

 Shri Panch Nirwani Ani Akhara's Ram Vilas Das Vedanti said, "I wish that the people of the entire country work unitedly for the growth of the country. Kumbh is celebrated for the well-being of all. We take the 'Shahi Snan' wishing for the well-being of all."

The Prayagraj District Magistrate has declared a local holiday in the government offices in the district for Monday to maintain law and order in view of the large number of devotees from across the country and abroad arriving for the 'Snan' on the occasion of Basant Panchmi. According to an order from the Office of the District Magistrate, it said that it has become necessary to declare a holiday for all government offices within the limits of Prayagraj district on the main bathing days due to the continuous influx of millions of devotees and pilgrims from across the country and abroad for the holy bath at the Triveni Sangam during the Maha Kumbh.

"It is hereby informed that on the occasion of the main bathing festival of Basant Panchami, on February 3, due to the large crowd of devotees and bathers and traffic restrictions, a local holiday has been declared for government offices in Prayagraj district to maintain peace and law and order," the order said.

 Acharya Dayanand Das Maharaj of Nirmohi Ani Akhara said, "... We are in the Nirmohi Akhara where all our 'shishyas' have come for 'sadhana', their spiritual practice, ready to go and take their holy dip in the Ganga... All of us, the family of humanity, will raise our consciousness to make the atma meet the Paramatma, to live as per dharma and humanity. We are very excited and ready for this dip in the Ganga..."

Rajeshwari Maa, Mahamandaleshwar of Nirmohi Ani Akhara said, "I am from Japan, and it's a great honour to be here for the Amrit Snan with our Akhara... After the snan we will continue to stay here and do 'sadhana' with our students and bring back the Sanatana Dharma back to Japan and all over the world."

Saint Chinmayanand Bapu said, "It is an auspicious occasion today, all the Akharas and Mahamandaleshwar are leaving for Sangam. The festival of Basant Panchami is especially important for students, if they take a holy dip in Sangam on the occasion, then they definitely get success. I thank the administration for a good arrangement. The situation is normal today."

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been continuously taking updates on the 'Amrit Snan' of Basant Panchami and giving necessary instructions to the DGP, Principal Secretary Home and officers of the Chief Minister's Office, at the war room of his official residence since 3.30 am, as per the Uttar Pradesh CMO.

As Amrit Snan is going on at Sangam in Prayagraj on the occasion of 'Basant Panchami', DIG Mahakumbh Vaibhav Krishna said, "Our crowd management has been good, you can see it. There is no pressure point, no incident has been reported. Our deployment is at all the pressure points. Amrit Snan has been going on smoothly. There is a SOP for pontoon bridges, we operate it accordingly, we have streamlined it. We hope Amrit Snan to conclude by 5 pm."

Mahant Raju Das said, "We are taking Amrit Snan on this auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami, I extend my wishes to the Santanis all over the world. I urge every Sanatani to take a holy dip in Ganga on this auspicious day." 

Akharas head towards Triveni Sangam for the 'Amrit Snan' on the occasion of Basant Panchami. As per Uttar Pradesh Information Department, today over 62.25 lakh devotees have taken a holy dip by 8 am. More than 34.97 crore devotees have taken holy dip till February 2. 

Here's what Panch Nirmohi Ani Akhada's Jagatguru Mahamandaleshwar Santosh Dau Satua Baba Maharaj said as he arrives at Triveni Sangam to take holy dip on Basant Panchami. "Those who are talking about Sadhu and Mahakumbh, I want to tell them that (Samajwadi Party chief) Akhilesh Yadav ji you never followed Sanatan and never respected Sanatan. So, don't take advantage of it now. We have seen when your party was in power, you shot Sanatanis. Don't spread rumours for your own benefit. We are Sanatani and we will uproot people like you." 

Additional Mela officer Vivek Chaturvedi said, "This is the third 'Amrit Snan'. It is also Basant Panchami and all the Akharas are coming to the ghat one by one and take holy dip in Sangam. Security is deployed everywhere and administration is monitoring the situation here continuously."

Kinnar Akhada's Kalyani Nandini Maharaj said, "Today is Basant Panchami, the day of Goddess Saraswati… We are going for the 'Amrit Snan'. The arrangements here are very good."

Shambhu Panch Agni Akhada's Swami Vishnu Maharaj said, "The atmosphere is great here and the value of Prayagraj has grown since the time all the Akharas and devotees came here. There is an atmosphere of prayer and austerity here. Arrangements made for everyone here are very nice."

A Naga sadhu said, "Arrangements today were better than the previous two Amrit Snans... Today's snan was the biggest for us saints..."

So far on Basant Panchami, Amrit Snan of seven Akharas including Mahanirvani, Atal, Juna, Niranjani has been completed. Devotees associated with Akharas also took a dip at the holy ghat during this time.

Millions of pilgrims, saints, yogis, and visitors from around the world gathered at the sacred Triveni Sangam—the confluence of Maa Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati—seeking spiritual purification. They took a holy dip in the sacred waters during the Amrit Snan on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami at the Maha Kumbh Mela.

Naga Sadhus created a mesmerising sight as they marched towards the Sangam, carrying sacred symbols and adorned with traditional ornaments, to take a dip in the holy waters during the Amrut Snan of Basant Panchami at the Maha Kumbh Mela.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended his greetings to the saints, pilgrims, and devotees on the occasion of the third Amrit Snan at the Maha Kumbh, wishing them spiritual blessings and prosperity as they take the holy dip at the Triveni Sangam. In an X post, CM Yogi said, "Warm congratulations to all the revered saints, religious leaders, akhadas, pilgrims, and devotees who will be taking the holy Amrit Snan at the sacred Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami during Maha Kumbh 2025, earning spiritual merit and blessings!"

 Yogini of Shailaja Devi of June Akhara said, "Basant Panchami brings happiness and positive energies which will take us towards success. This 'divya snan' will bring success in everyone's life."

After Amrit Snan on Basant Panchami, President of Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad, Mahant Ravindra Puri said, "The 'snan' is very grand and everyone is very happy and are giving blessings to the government. Devotees in large numbers have come to take a holy dip."

On the day of Amrit Snan of Basant Panchami, after taking a bath, while offering water to the Sun, chanting the mantra 'Om Hreem Hreem Hroum Sah Suryay Namah' 108 times can prove to be very auspicious for the devotees. Chanting this mantra gives freedom from diseases and fears. Along with this, this mantra increases your self-confidence, makes you strong spiritually and physically.

 "Today's snan is to pray for the well-being for the entire world. People of all kinds have come here... The arrangements by the administration are excellent," said Maha Nirvani Akhara Mahamandaleshwar Vishweshwaranand Saraswati Maharaj. 

 "This is the first time for me, I am coming from Italy and I am very very happy. This is the biggest happening I had in my life," said a devotee from Italy. 

Naga Sadhus take a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam, a sacred confluence of three rivers - Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati on the occasion of Basant Panchami.

Basant Panchami is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati. Goddess Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge, hence donating things related to education is considered very auspicious on this day. You can donate books, pens, etc. to needy students. Along with this, you can also donate yellow food items, yellow clothes, etc. on this day.

Meenakshi Giri from Mahanirvani Akhara, Russia, said: "It is a very holy moment of my life. I have been following Sanatan Dharma for the past 17 years."

A foreign devotee from Italy said, "I took the dip a few minutes ago. It feels like once in a lifetime opportunity. People have been waiting for 144 years to be here in this moment right now...I feel blessed...It has been one of the most beautiful experiences of my life...The people have been very kind to us..."

 Sadhvi Satyapriya  Giri explains the importance of Basant Panchami Amrit Snan as the various akharas head to Sangam nose for holy dip.

Acharya Mahamandaleshwar and Niranjan Peethadheeshwar of Niranjani Akhara Swami Kailashanand Giri ji Maharaj said," The holy festival of Basant Panchami is being celebrated today. All the Sanatani will pray to Goddess Saraswati today. Preparations are underway for Amritrashi Shahi Snan. We will be heading towards Sangam now. Shahi Marg has been kept vacant for Akharas. Only Akharas will take holy bath at the moment. A government can only understand this tradition when there is someone in the government who understands the 'dharma' and there is no one better than Yogi ji (Adityanath) to understand this."

 Additional Mela Adhikari Vivek Chaturvedi said, "Today is the "Amrit Snan' on the occasion of Basant Panchami and the procession of Mahanirvani Akhara and Shri Shambhu Panchayati Atal Akhara is heading towards the Sangam ghat. Proper arrangements have been made for the safety of devotees..."

"UP CM Yogi Adityanath and the administration has made very good arrangements...Various Akharas will take a holy dip," he said.

The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport (UPSRTC) has deployed a dedicated fleet of shuttle and reserved buses to manage the massive influx of devotees gathering in Prayagraj for the holy dip at the Mahakumbh on Basant Panchami. With the festival scheduled for Monday, lakhs of pilgrims and tourists have started arriving on the sacred banks of Triveni. By the evening of February 2, approximately 35 crore people had taken a dip in Triveni, a UP government statement said.

The UPSRTC has reserved 2,500 buses, operating from four temporary bus stations, to ensure a smooth and orderly return of devotees, the statement said. The largest allocation is 1,500 buses at Jhansi, followed by 600 at Bela Kachhar for Lucknow-bound passengers, 300 at Nehru Park for Kanpur-bound travellers, and 100 buses for tourists heading to Mirzapur and Banda, it said.

Additionally, 550 shuttle buses will be operating every two minutes to ferry devotees between the temporary bus stations and key locations near Mahakumbh, the statement read. Special measures have been implemented to prevent overcrowding, and ensure a hassle-free experience for all visitors, the statement added.

Swarup Rani Nehru Hospital and Tej Bahadur Sapru Hospital have been placed on high alert. "At Swarup Rani Nehru Hospital, 500 staff members have been put on standby, most existing patients have been discharged, and 150 beds have been reserved for emergencies. Sixty resident doctors have been placed on 24-hour alert mode, 30 CT scan machines are ready, along with MRI and ultrasound facilities, ensuring all necessary tests can be conducted. A 200-unit blood bank has also been set up at SRN Hospital, and all facilities are linked to an alarm system for quick response," it added.

Dr Gaurav Dubey, the nodal officer for medical services at the Mahakumbh fair, said that the government's emergency response system, particularly ambulance services, is playing a crucial role.

Basant Panchami marks the third Amrit Snan date at the Kumbh. Two more special 'snans' are on February 12 (Maghi Purnima) and 26 (Mahashivratri). The government has heightened preparations to an all-time high particularly in the wake of the January 29 stampede at Sangam that left at least 30 pilgrims dead and 60 injured with the police blaming overcrowding for the incident.

During the Maha Kumbh, the last holy bath is today on the day of Basant Panchami. However, Kumbh baths will also be taken on the days of Maghi Purnima and Mahashivratri, but these will not be called Amrit snan.

• January 14, 2025: Makar Sankranti (First Amrit snan)
• January 29, 2025: Mauni Amavasya (Second Amrit snan)
• February 3, 2025: Basant Panchami (Third Amrit snan)

The bath taken on some important dates during Kumbh is called Amrit Snan. This name is considered very special culturally. Scholars have different opinions about this name. Some people believe that Naga Sadhus are allowed to bathe first in Maha Kumbh for their devotion towards religion. During this time, Naga Sadhus come to bathe in the Ganga riding elephants, horses, and chariots. That is, their pomp and splendor are seen like that of kings. It is believed that the holy bath of Maha Kumbh was named Amrit Snan after seeing this royal army of Nagas.  A similar belief is also about Amrit Snan that, in the olden days, kings and emperors used to take out a grand procession with saints and sages to take a bath during Maha Kumbh. Since then, the bath held on some special dates of Maha Kumbh came to be known as Amrit Snan.

The origin of 'Kumbh' is very ancient, it started from the time of Samudra Manthan. When there was a war between the gods and the demons for the Amrit Kalash. Kumbh has special significance for Hindus. On the occasion of every Maha Kumbh, millions of devotees come to participate in this grand festival. In the year 2003, more than 10 million people participated in the Kumbh Mela held in Haridwar. The biggest speciality of Kumbh is the miracle-filled sadhus and saints who participate in the fair, those who are rarely seen. The biggest importance of Maha Kumbh is that the people who participate in it have a different kind of feeling. It is believed that bathing during Kumbh frees one from all kinds of sins which leads a person to salvation. Maha Kumbh is full of miracles in itself.

The Maha Kumbh Mela is one of the major religious events of Hinduism. A grand Maha Kumbh is being organized in Prayagraj from January 13. The Maha Kumbh will conclude on February 26. According to religious beliefs, a person attains salvation by bathing at the confluence of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati during the Maha Kumbh. Also, all the sins of man are washed away by taking a Kumbh bath. The bath taken during Kumbh is also called Shahi Snan.  

The Maha Kumbh is celebrated once in 12 years, completing the 12 cycles of the 12-year Kumbh Mela. Devotees believe that taking a holy dip in water on this auspicious occasion multiplies spiritual blessings and enhances the journey of salvation. In contrast, the Kumbh Mela takes place every three years, rotating between the four holy cities of Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain. The Kumbh Mela is important but smaller in scale compared to the Maha Kumbh and Ardh Kumbh (held every six years). The Maha Kumbha, on the other hand, stands out for its immense size and spiritual significance, attracting the largest number of pilgrims.

The Maha Kumbh Mela is mainly organised in 4 places. 

• Haridwar: The Kumbh Mela is organised in Haridwar when the Sun is in Aries and Jupiter is in Aquarius.
