Why India failed to hear cries of Kashmiri Pandits for 26 long years?

Is Anupam Kher the new poster boy for Kashmiri pandits?

Undoubtedly, Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has emerged as the new face as far as the cause of   Kashmiri pandits is concerned.

Anupam Kher is a Kashmiri pandits himself and claims to have bore the brunt of terrorists in the tumultuous era of 1990s when calls were made to Kashmiri pandits from mosques asking them to leave their homes. Recently, he released a very moving video on the plight of Kashmiri pandits that grabbed the attention of the entire country.

Is he the new poster boy for Kashmiri pandits?

There is a clear consensus among Kashmiri pandits over the important role that he played in raising the voice of the exiled community although they point out that Kher raised his voice very late.  There is a little  a little scepticism as well over his unilateral actions and lack of coordination with those leaders who are working at the grass root.

“ Anupam Kher raised his voice very late but there is no denying the fact that his voice will further strengthen our cause. For translating his voice into action, he needs to get in touch with other organisations which are working at the grass root level. He can't get it executed on his own,” points out Surinder Ambardar.

Even a common Kashmiri pandit thinks on the same lines.

“As far as Anupam Kher is concerned, it's better late than never, but he needs to get in touch with grass root workers who have been raising this issue for last 26 years,” says Yajin Bhat.
