Hyderabad: Dalit man brutally murdered by Muslim wife's family in 'honour killing', 2 arrested

The incident happened on Wednesday night at Saroornagar, when the man, in his mid-20s, was travelling on a bike with his wife when two persons on a scooter stopped them on the road and attacked him in full public view, police said.

Hyderabad news: A 25-year-old Hindu man was murdered in public by his Muslim brother-in-law in an 'honor killing' case. Announcing a breakthrough in the case within 24 hours, Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said Ashrin Sultana's brother Syed Mobin Ahmed and brother-in-law Mohammed Masood Ahmed have been arrested.

The victim's distraught wife told the media she knew her husband for the last 11 years and claimed five persons attacked him.

The 'murder'

The incident happened on Wednesday night at Saroornagar when the victim, B Nagaraju, was travelling on a motorbike with his wife and was confronted by his attackers -- Syed Mobin Ahmed and Mohammed Masood Ahmed -- who came on a scooter, stopped the couple on the road and attacked the man in full public view with an iron rod before stabbing him with a knife, killing him on the spot, police said.

After stopping the couple, the duo pushed Nagaraju to the ground and beat him up indiscriminately with the rod and stabbed him to death and finally fled the place, police said.

Nagaraju, who was working as a salesman in a car showroom, died on the spot after the attackers hit him with iron rods and stabbed him. The visuals of the brutal murder were recorded on CCTV in the area. Sultana alleged that her brother and others attacked Nagaraju even as she pleaded with them to leave him.

Nagaraju and Sultana

Nagaraju, belonging to the Scheduled Caste and a resident of Marpally village in Vikarabad district, and Sultana of neighbouring village Ghanapur were in love for the last seven years. They were classmates in school and college. However, Sultana's family was opposed to the alliance and they warned her against continuing the relationship.

The Hindu-Muslim couple were classmates in school and college and were in love for more than five years even as her family was against the relationship. They got married in January this year against the wishes of her family members, police said.

The girl eloped with Nagaraju on January 30, 2022 and the next day they married in an Arya Samaj temple in Lal Darwaza area. The girl had changed her name to Pallavi. According to police, the girl's family had filed a missing person complaint in Balanagar police station on February 1.

Mobin Ahmed had warned his sister in the past, police said, adding she subsequently walked out of her house to marry Nagaraju. Since then Mobin Ahmed was nursing a grudge against Nagaraju, police said.

Sensing a threat to their lives, the couple had left for Visakhapatnam. According to Nagaraju's parents, they had come back to Hyderabad five days ago and were staying in Panjala Anil Kumar colony in Saroornagar, where Nagaraju was killed.
