Heavy rains disrupt life in MP, schools closed, Narmada flowing 20 ft above danger level

Indore/Bhopal, Aug 1: Heavy rains for the past few days  has thrown normal life out of gear in Madhya Pradesh with the state government ordering closure of all schools in Indore, Ujjain, Shajapur, Dhar, Dewas, Jhabua, Ratlam and Khargone districts.





The river Narmada is flowing 20 feet above danger level, and all the 23 sluice gates of Onkareshwar dam have been opened.

A flood alert has been issued for more than 400 villages, and 18 low-lying villages are being evacuated as an emergency measure.

All 13 gates of Indira Sagar dam have also been opened because of the overflowing dam.

The met department has predicted heavy rains in the next 48 hours.

Incessant rains have been reported from Ujjain, Rewa, Gwalior, Chambal, Shahdol and Sagar divisions.
