Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has described as false and baseless the charges levelled by Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal in Varanasi that the state government was forcibly acquiring land from farmers, and that 5,874 farmers have committed suicide in Gujarat in the last 10 years.

A senior official of the state government said,  even the Supreme Court has appreciated Gujarat's land acquisition policy, according to which farmers, whose land are acquired, are given market rates, and the acquisition is done only if they wished.

Kejriwal had alleged that nearly 60,000 small and medium industrial units were closed during Modi's rule in Gujarat.

"The fact is that 5,19,000 new small and medium industrial units were registered in Gujarat in the last 10 years", a government officials said.

Kejriwal had alleged that Modi was in favour of FDI in retail. A source close to Modi said, the BJP was against entry of FDI in retail in principle, and the party has already clarified its stand.
