    A 19-year-old woman was raped allegedly by three youths after a birthday party in Modi Nagar town in this district, police said on Tuesday. The woman, employed with a private company, attended the party on Sunday and somebody served her drink laced with sedatives, they said.

    Gujarat records 425 new COVID-19 cases, 1 death; active tally at 3,480

    Gujarat on Tuesday reported 425 fresh COVID-19 cases, raising its overall tally to 12,66,168, while one more patient succumbed to the infection in the state, said the health department said. With the death of one more patient-reported from Ahmedabad - the state's COVID-19 death toll rose to 10,994, said the department in a release.

    Five shopkeepers arrested for selling banned 'Chinese Manjha'

    Police have arrested five shopkeepers for allegedly selling banned 'Chinese Manjha' and recovered 598 rolls of banned kite string from northeast Delhi, officials said on Tuesday. The National Green tribunal (NGT) banned the glass-coated synthetic string -- used largely for kite-flying -- in the national capital in 2017.

    Delhi LG says pandemic far from over, urges people to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour

    Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Tuesday said the pandemic is far from over and appealed to people to adhere to Covid-appropriate behaviour. Delhi on Monday reported 1,227 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 14.57 per cent, while eight more people succumbed to the disease, according to official data.

    Assam man beheads villager, walks into police station with severed head

    A man allegedly beheaded his fellow villager following an altercation over a bet on a football match and walked into a local police station with the severed head in Assam's Sonitpur district, a senior officer said on Tuesday. The incident occurred on Monday in Doyalur area under the Rangapara Police Station limits after the football match organised on the occasion of Independence Day was over, he said.

    UP: Fake spice factory busted, 4 held

    A factory manufacturing fake black pepper was busted and four people were arrested here on Tuesday, police said. Superintendent of Police (City) Sanjay Kumar said eight quintals of fake black pepper and 25 quintals of ingredients including green peas and chemicals were found in the factory in Baruwa Patti village.

    NCR: 4 dead, 2 injured after truck falls on car

     Four people, three of them software engineers, died and two others were injured after a truck fell on the car they were travelling in, police said on Tuesday. Three of the deceased were IIT alumni and worked in Adobe in Noida. According to police, the incident happened around 2 am while the passengers were returning to Noida from Udaipur.

    Sharp decline in daily COVID-19 cases in Puducherry

    Puducherry witnessed a sharp fall in the number of new COVID-19 cases, with only 20 people testing positive for the virus on Tuesday, taking the overall caseload to 1,72,174. The fresh cases were detected during the examination of 209 samples. Puducherry region alone reported 14 fresh cases while Karaikal saw four and Yanam two.

    Bus falls into gorge in J-K, two ITBP personnel killed

    A bus fell into a gorge in Pahalgam area of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, leaving two Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel dead and 37 others returning from Amarnath Yatra duty injured. A police official said the police bus carrying 37 ITBP personnel and two policemen fell into a gorge between Chandanwari and Pahalgam.

    Mass singing of national anthem held across Telangana

    The national anthem was simultaneously sung by people across Telangana on Tuesday as part of the celebration of 75 years of Independence. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, his cabinet colleagues, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi and other leaders attended the event at Abids here. Rao paid floral tributes at a statue of the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at Abids before singing the national anthem.

    Kashmiri Pandit shot dead, brother injured in militant attack in J-K

    A Kashmiri Pandit died and his brother was injured after they were shot by militants in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, police said. A police official identified the deceased as Sunil Kumar and the injured as Pintu Kumar. "Terrorists fired upon civilians in an apple orchard in Chotipora area of #Shopian. One person died and one injured. Both belong to minority community. Injured person has been shifted to hospital. Area #cordoned off. Further details shall follow," a police spokesperson said.

    Man who escaped from mental asylum caught by Karnataka police

    The Karnataka police have caught an inmate of a mental health centre here, who had escaped from the hospital on August 14 midnight, sources said.     Mobile snatcher arrested in Delhi

    A woman sub-inspector of Delhi Police caught a man who was trying to escape after allegedly snatching the mobile phone of a person in central Delhi's Kamla Market, officials said on Monday. According to police, one Ashish Patel was waiting at Kamla Market bus stand Sunday evening when two people approached him and one of them snatched his mobile phone and ran towards a roundabout.

    Punjab Police recovers weapons used by Pak Army from arrested ISI-backed terrorists

    The weapons recovered from Pakistan ISI-backed terrorists are lethal and usually used by Pakistan Army, Punjab Police said. Punjab Police on Sunday busted a Pak-ISI-backed terrorist module and arrested four members. The accused were associated with Canada-based Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh Dala and Australia-based gangster Gurjant Singh alias Janta. They were apprehended from Delhi during the intel-led operation carried out by the Counter-Intelligence unit of Punjab Police with the help of Delhi Police.
