New Delhi: Union home secretary Anil Goswami who is accused of stalling the arrest of former Union Minister Matang Sinh in connection with the Saradha chit-fund scam, is set to be removed from his post.

Prior to this, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh summoned Anil Goswami to his office and had an hour long meeting with him on Wednesday morning. After meeting Goswami, Singh called CBI chief Anil Sinha to his office.

After his meeting with Goswami, the Union Home Minister briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about allegations that Goswami had tried to stall the arrest of Congress leader Mantang Sinh in connection with Saradha scam.

Singh apprised the Prime Minister on the issue after talking to Goswami and CBI Director Anil Sinha to get a factual picture about allegations that Goswami had interfered in CBI's work and made attempts to prevent arrest of Sinh on Saturday, official sources said.

The final decision will be taken by the Prime Minister who is now seized of the matter, they said.

This meeting was immediately followed by Singh calling CBI Director Anil Sinha, a 1979 batch IPS officer of Bihar cadre, who apparently briefed the minister about the sequence of events that unfolded ahead of Sinh's arrest.

Sinha also refused to take any questions from the waiting media outside the office of the Home Minister. The Director held a separate meeting with Goswami.

The CBI is believed to have sent a report to the Prime Minister's Office in this regard, sources in the agency said.

Anil Goswami, a 1978 batch IAS officer of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre was appointed as Home secretary under Dr Manmohan Singh government in 2013.
