Two Pakistani smugglers killed by BSF in Punjab; arms, drugs recovered

New Delhi: Two suspected Pakistani smugglers were killed and another injured in a gunfight with BSF troops in Punjab’s Fazilka early Sunday morning.

Security forces recovered 15 packets of heroin and weapons, including two pistols and a bore-gun, from the smugglers, news agency ANI reported.  

The incident took place at a border out post called Sawana at around 2:30 am on Sunday. BSF personnel on duty noticed some unusual activity beyond the fencing, but inside the Indian territory and challenged the infiltrators. They opened fire on the jawans and in retaliation, the BSF jawans fired, killing two smugglers and injuring another. The injured infiltrator was rushed to a hospital.

Following the encounter, 15 packets of heroin and weapons were recovered from them, including two pistols and a bore-gun.

Meanwhile in Gurdaspur district of Punjab, a Pakistan national was apprehended by BSF along Indo-Pak border. It is not yet known if both the incidents are related in any manner.
