Hyderabad: In an incident that revives the grim memories of  the horrific murder of an Infosys employee in Chennai last month, a man slit throat of an 18-year-old girl in Telangana’s Adilabad district yesterday in full public view, allegedly because she resisted his advances.

The accused, identified as Mahesh, 22, was a second year degree student and was neighbour of the victim Sandhya. He did not want her to get married to anyone else, police said.

Mahesh overpowered Sandhya and slit her throat with a small knife in the Gopalnagar colony of Bhainsa town when she was coming home from the market on Saturday evening and then fled away.

Sandhya had complained of being harassed by Mahesh last year after which her family had lodged a police complaint. He had even tried to disrupt her engagement in January this year.

Surprisingly, the police had brokered peace between the two parties and did not take any action against the accused.

Last month, Swathi, a 24-year-old Infosys employee in Chennai, was brutally hacked to death by a man at a railway station because he rejected his advancements.
