In a move that could raise fresh tension in Kashmir, a young boy was killed today during an encounter between Indian security forces and militants in Pulwama district.

In a move that could raise fresh tension in Kashmir, a young boy was killed today during an encounter between Indian security forces and militants in Pulwama district.

The deceased has been identified as 15-year-old Amir Nazir of Beegumbagh Kakapora. He was a student of class IX.

The minor boy was killed in police firing at the encounter site in Padgampora village of the district, police said.

The boy was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical relief but doctors declared him brought dead.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Pulwama Talat Jabeen informed that the boy was declared dead on arrival at PHC Kakapora.

According to reports, one more civilian sustained a bullet injury in his leg during the gunfight. He was referred to Srinagar for treatment.

The encounter erupted this morning after security forces, acting on a tip off, cordoned off a village in Pulwama district to nab the militants. However, terrorists, opened fire at security personnel leading to fierce gun battle. 

So far, two militants, believed to be of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, have been neutralised in the operation and efforts are on to gun down others.
