The situation remained tense in Bihar's Aurangabad town on Tuesday following a clash between members of two communities during Ram Navami celebrations.

People from both sides indulged in heavy stone-pelting and arson, which left several persons injured and nearly a dozen shops gutted yesterday while a Ram Navami procession was being taken out.

The Bihar government yesterday clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in Aurangabad town, which has been extended to today. The police have so far arrested over 50 people for violating prohibitions and attempted arson.

All school and colleges have been closed until further directions and markets are completely shut down.

Heavy security arrangements have been made to avoid any untoward incident. The government has deployed two battalions of CRPF and SSB in the area and the additional police force from the neighbouring Gaya and Patna districts have been brought in for support.

The police have orders to shoot miscreants at sight. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is keeping a close eye on the situation in the district.

The security forces are taking out flag marches in the area, while district administration is using loudspeakers to inform the citizens of the prohibitory orders.
