Bus crashes into two cars on Pune-Mumbai expressway; 17 dead, 33 injured

Raigad : At least Seventeen people died and 33 were in a ghastly road accident involving a bus and two private vehicles on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Panvel on Sunday, officials said.

According to State Highway Control, the accident occurred near Shendug curve on the Pune-Mumbai arm of the E-Way around 4.00 a.m.

The bus was travelling from Satara when it crashed into a Swift Desire and Tata Innova that had stopped to the side of the road. The Swift car had been punctured and the driver of the Innova had stopped to help change the tyre when the accident took place.

Due to the impact of the collision, one of the private cars was thrown into a 40-feet deep ditch.

Among the victims are seven women and one child.

The injured were immediately rushed to the MGM hospital in Panvel. Police said the death toll could rise as there were several grievously injured among those rushed to the hospital.
