2013 Sonai honour killing: Nashik court awards death sentence to six convicts, acquits one

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the killings were a fallout of inter-caste love affair between one of the deceased and a Maratha girl.

A sessions court in Nashik on Saturday awarded death sentence to six convicts in the 2013 Sonai honour killing case while acquitted one. The case had triggered outrage among Dalits. 

Six of the seven accused have been convicted on various charges including murder and criminal conspiracy for killing three Dalit youths on January 1, 2013 in Sonai village of Ahmednagar district. 

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the killings were a fallout of inter-caste love affair between one of the deceased and a Maratha girl. 

It was reported that the family of the girl had disapproved of the affair, who then conspired and killed the three Dalits.
