Pune local body election results 2025: NCP rules Indapur, BJP dominates Talegaon Dabhade

Ajit Pawar led-NCP won the Bhor Municipal Council in the Pune district. Ramchandra Aware elected President. It has 20 wards.

Ajit Pawar's NCP secured Daund Municipal Council (26 wards, President Durgadevi Jagdale) and leads Indapur (20) and Jejuri (20). Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena won Rajgurunagar (21 wards, President Madhavi Butala). Independents claimed Bhor (20 wards, President Ramchandra Aware), bucking the alliance tide.

The ruling Mahayuti alliance (BJP+Shiv Sena+NCP) leads in 12 of Pune district's 14 municipal councils, including Alandi (21 wards, BJP 10/Shiv Sena 6), Chakan (25), Junnar (20), Lonavala (27), Saswad (22), Shirur (24), Fursungi-Uruli Devachi (32), plus all three Nagar Panchayats—Manchar (17), Malegaon Budruk (17), and Vadgaon Maval (NCP win, 17). BJP also tops Talegaon Dabhade (28 wards).

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde declared Sunday's Maharashtra local body poll results a preview of Mahayuti's dominance in the January 15 municipal corporation elections, as initial trends showed his BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP alliance surging comfortably ahead. "These outcomes reflect public support for development over divisive politics," Shinde said at a press conference. He highlighted Mahayuti crossing 200 seats in 286 local bodies, with BJP hitting a "century," Shiv Sena securing a "half-century" as the state's second-largest force, and the alliance poised to replicate this in upcoming civic polls.

In Baramati, Ajit Pawar’s NCP won 8 seats unopposed. Ajit Pawar’s NCP candidates have won Udgir Municipal Corporation.

Pune's councils reflect diverse political flavors from past mandates. Baramati remains NCP's fortress, with 35 of 41 seats under their belt, independents filling the gaps. Alandi pits BJP (10 leads) against Shiv Sena in a tight race.

Early trends from Maharashtra's 288 municipal council elections show the ruling Mahayuti alliance surging past 200, leading in 213 seats across 246 municipal councils and 42 nagar panchayats. BJP emerges as the single largest party with 128 leads, backed by Shiv Sena (52) and NCP (33). The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi trails at 52, with Congress at 35, Shiv Sena-UBT at 9, and NCP-SP at 8. Local alliances hold 22 seats in these initial counts on Sunday.

The strong room of the Jejuri Municipal Council has been opened, and the counting of votes is underway. The seal was broken in the presence of all candidates and their representatives.

Ajit Pawar's NCP has taken a significant lead, currently ahead in 17 wards in the Jejuri Municipal Council in the Pune district.

The BJP is currently leading in 10 out of 21 wards in the Alandi Municipal Council in the Pune district.

Pune district's local elections reveal strong dominance by major parties across several municipal councils with distinct regional variations. In Alandi Municipal Council, out of 21 seats, BJP leads with 10, Shiv Sena commands 6, and independents hold 2 seats, reflecting BJP-Shiv Sena competition. Baramati Municipal Council is a bastion of NCP with 35 seats out of 41, with a few independents holding the rest.

As per initial trends, Mahayuti holds a strong lead with 126 seats- BJP at 66, Shiv Sena at 33, and NCP at 27. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) trails at 37, including 18 for Congress, 11 for NCP-SP, and 8 for Shiv Sena-UBT. Others account for 15 seats in these initial counts.

According to the early trends amid vote counting in the Pune district local body election results, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in four wards out of the 21 in the Alandi Municipal Council. 

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Prajakta Ajinkyarana Patil was elected unopposed as president of the Angar Nagar Panchayat in Solapur district of Maharashtra, while BJP candidate Sadhanatai Girish Mahajan was elected unopposed as president of the Jamner Municipal Council in Jalgaon district.

Ruling allies like BJP, Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar's NCP have fielded rivals in spots, turning the Mahayuti-MVA showdown into a multi-dimensional mess with "friendly fights" adding spice in the Pune local body polls.

In Alandi - Around four BJP candidates and 1 Independent candidate is ahead in the race. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in four wards in Pune district as the vote counting began at 10:00 am on December 21 (Sunday).

The first phase of the Maharashtra local body elections included polling in 264 municipal councils and nagar panchayats spread across the state. The contest is largely centred on the rivalry between the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Voting in this phase was conducted through electronic voting machines, ensuring a streamlined process. Nearly one crore eligible voters were registered to participate, reflecting the scale of these grassroots elections. The exercise forms part of the broader rural and urban civic polls being held in accordance with directions issued by the Supreme Court of India.

Pune district features 14 Municipal Councils—including Alandi (21 seats), Baramati (41), Bhor (20), Chakan (25), Daund (26), Fursungi-Urli Devachi (32), Indapur (20), Jejuri (20), Junnar (20), Lonavala (27), Rajgurunagar (21), Saswad (22), Shirur (24), and Talegaon Dabhade (28)—totalling 347 seats. Complementing these are three Nagar Panchayats—Vadgaon (Pune) (17), Manchar (17), and Malegaon Budruk (17)—adding 51 seats for a district-wide contest across 398 positions drawing 2,671 candidates.

A total of around 1,07,03,576 voters- including 53,79,931 males, 53,22,870 females, and 775 others- have cast their votes at approximately 13,355 polling stations in the Maharashtra local body elections 2025. 

Several contests filled 3,820 wards and 6,859 total seats- 6,145 in Municipal Councils and 714 in Nagar Panchayats of Maharashtra. The Maharashtra State Election Commission organised polls for 288 urban local bodies- 246 Municipal Councils and 42 Nagar Panchayats- across all six administrative divisions. Voting occurred on December 2 (Tuesday) and December 20 (Saturday), with results to be declared on December 21 (Sunday).

A new mobile application was introduced for the real-time access to voter details, candidate affidavits and also duplicate voter verification for enhancing electoral integrity in Maharashtra.

Polls covered established Municipal Councils alongside newly formed Nagar Panchayats. Meanwhile, elections for 29 Municipal Corporations were slated for a later date.
