Maharashtra Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Samiti Election Results 2026: BJP-led Mahayuti secures historic victory

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday thanked the people of Maharashtra for supporting the BJP-led Mahayuti in the zilla parishad elections, terming it as a vote for "good governance." "Once again, Maharashtra blesses BJP and Mahayuti! After the resounding success of the BJP and Mahayuti in the Municipal Corporation and Municipal Council elections, the people of Maharashtra have given a strong mandate to us in the Zilla Parishad elections," Modi said in a post on X.

The BJP-led Mahayuti swept the Zilla Parishad and panchayat samiti polls in Maharashtra, results of which were declared on Monday, continuing the winning streak that started with the stellar performance in the 2024 assembly polls. The Mahayuti won 552 of 731 ZP seats and more than 1000 of the 1462 panchayat samiti seats, the State Election Commission said. In the ruling Mahayuti, the BJP led with 225 ZP seats, followed by 165 for the Nationalist Congress Party and 162 for the Shiv Sena.  In the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, the Congress emerged on top with 55 ZP seats, followed by 43 for the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and 26 for Sharad Pawar's NCP (SP). The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena won a seat each in Latur and Ratnagiri.

In the 1462 seats in 125 panchayat samitis, the BJP won 459, followed by 306 for the NCP and 302 for the Shiv Sena. The Congress won 97, NCP (SP) 46 and Shiv Sena (UBT) 89. The MNS won two seats, Independents 31, unrecognised parties registered with SEC 36, while parties recognised outside the state but registered with the SEC got 17 seats, the poll body said.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) retained control of Pune Zilla Parishad by emerging victorious on 51 out of 73 seats, the win coming days after party stalwart Ajit Pawar died in a plane crash. The BJP won 10 seats, followed by six for the Shiv Sena (UBT), five for the Shiv Sena and one for the NCP (SP). The Congress failed to open its account. The NCP won all six seats in the Baramati group, as well as all eight in Indapur. In the Panchayat Samiti polls, the NCP won 78 seats out of 146 seats, while results of 12 seats from Haveli group are awaited, according to the district officials.

The Mahayuti alliance has surged ahead with a decisive lead in the Zilla Parishad elections, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi appears to have been wiped out across most regions. According to the latest figures, Mahayuti has secured victories in 11 out of the 12 Zilla Parishads, whereas only one district has gone in favour of the NCP (SP) faction.

He said that the results declared so far clearly show that the people of Maharashtra have once again placed their trust in the Mahayuti alliance. According to the latest trends and outcomes, the Mahayuti is leading in most regions. 

"In Kolhapur and Latur, all three alliance partners contested the elections together, and even there, the Mahayuti emerged as the number one choice. The BJP has broken its own 2017 record. In 2017, the party had won 284 seats, whereas this time it has already secured victory on 410 seats. As for the Panchayat Samiti elections, the Mahayuti has achieved success in more than 100 out of the 125 committees... The BJP has emerged as the largest party in urban and rural Maharashtra after the local body elections."

In the trends for the results of 12 Zilla Parishad and 125 Panchayat Samiti elections in Maharashtra, the Mahayuti alliance has taken a strong lead. According to the latest trends, Mahayuti is ahead in all 12 Zilla Parishads.

Zilla Parishad Trends

• BJP is leading in seven Zilla Parishads.
• Shiv Sena (Shinde) is ahead in two.

According to the trends of the Maharashtra Zilla Parishad elections, the BJP has reached a lead on 224 seats. Shiv Sena is in second position, maintaining a lead on 139 seats. NCP stands third with leads on 137 seats. Among the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) allies, the Congress is ahead on 47 seats, making it the leading party within the alliance. There are a total of 731 seats in the Maharashtra Zilla Parishad.

As many as 12 BJP candidates have won, while 17 members had earlier been elected unopposed. With these results, the Mahayuti alliance has taken a decisive lead in the Sindhudurg Panchayat Samiti.

Early trends from the Maharashtra Panchayat Samiti election results at 11:50 am show the Bharatiya Janata Party extending its lead with 30 seats out of the total 125.

The NCP is leading in 20 seats, followed by Shiv Sena with leads in 17 constituencies. The NCP SP faction is ahead in 11 seats. The Congress is leading in 8 Panchayat Samiti seats, while Shiv Sena UBT is ahead in 5 constituencies. Candidates classified as Others are leading in 1 seat.

The Congress has opened its account in the Sangli Zilla Parishad with a win in the Palus Panchayat Samiti. Congress candidate Rishikesh Lad emerged victorious from the constituency. Lad is the nephew of Congress MLA Vishwajit Kadam.

Early trends from the Maharashtra Panchayat Samiti election results at 11:20 am show the Bharatiya Janata Party leading with 25 seats out of a total of 125.

The Nationalist Congress Party is in second place, leading in 18 seats, followed by Shiv Sena with leads in 15 constituencies. The Congress is ahead in 10 seats.

Among other parties, the NCP SP faction is leading in 10 seats, while Shiv Sena UBT is ahead in 5 constituencies. Candidates classified as Others are leading in 1 seat.

Across the districts where early trends are available, the Nationalist Congress Party has emerged as one of the strongest contenders, leading in multiple Zilla Parishad seats in Parbhani, Pune, Satara and Kolhapur, and sharing the top position with the Congress in Kolhapur.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is also showing a significant presence, leading in several seats across Pune, Satara, Raigad and Kolhapur, with a particularly strong showing in Satara. Shiv Sena has taken the lead in a sizeable number of seats in Raigad and has smaller leads in Parbhani, Pune, Satara and Kolhapur.

Raigad district, which has 59 Zilla Parishad seats, has seen Shiv Sena take the lead in 8 seats. The BJP is ahead in 6 seats, while the NCP is leading in 3. Shiv Sena is also shown leading in another 2 seats, and candidates classified as Others are ahead in 3 seats.

In Sindhudurg district, early trends from the Zilla Parishad election results at 10:30 am show the Bharatiya Janata Party leading in 12 of the 50 seats, while Shiv Sena is ahead in 3 seats.

In Solapur, trends from the Zilla Parishad elections at 10:30 am indicate that the Bharatiya Janata Party is leading in 7 of the 68 seats. The Nationalist Congress Party is ahead in 3 seats, while Shiv Sena is leading in 1 seat.

According to the latest trends, the Congress is leading in the Uchgaon Zilla Parishad in Kolhapur.

The party is also ahead in the Uchgaon Panchayat Samiti. Overall, the Congress has taken the lead in 3 Zilla Parishads across the district. In the Panchayat Samiti segment, the Congress is leading in 6 seats so far.

Late Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar's NCP is leading in north Pune, according to early vote counting trends in Maharashtra Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti election results 2026.

Police in Satara stopped a government employee from entering a vote-counting centre after finding him carrying a mobile phone, officials said.

The incident took place in Karad, where police confiscated the identity card of the employee after receiving information that some staff were attempting to hide mobile phones inside the counting centre. During a check, the employee was found concealing his phone inside a raincoat.

Following the incident, the employee was immediately removed from the counting centre, and further action was initiated as per election guidelines.

In the 2017 Parbhani Zilla Parishad elections, a total of 54 seats were contested across the district. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) emerged as the largest party, winning 24 seats. Shiv Sena finished second with 12 seats, while the Congress secured 6 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party won 5 seats. Independents and other smaller groups together accounted for the remaining 7 seats.

In the 2017 Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections, a total of 50 seats were contested across the Sindhudurg district.

The Congress emerged as the largest party, winning 27 seats. Shiv Sena followed with 16 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party secured 6 seats. The Nationalist Congress Party managed to win 1 seat.

All preparations for the counting of votes have been completed by the administration for the Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections. The counting process will begin at 10 am, with separate counting centres set up in each district.

Counting of votes is underway today for 42 seats of the Sindhudurg Zilla Parishad and 83 Panchayat Samiti seats. However, candidates have already been elected unopposed in 25 seats, including 8 Zilla Parishad constituencies and 17 Panchayat Samiti constituencies. Vote counting is being conducted today for the remaining 125 seats.

At least 9 people have been booked in separate cases of bogus voting during the Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in Pune district, police said.

In one incident, local residents apprehended a group of 6 people, including a woman, on suspicion of bogus voting at a polling centre at Jogeshwari Vidyalaya in Kesnand between 1.30 pm and 4.30 pm on Friday. Election officials verified the suspects on the spot and alerted the police after allegedly recovering fake Aadhaar cards and voter identity cards from them.

The suspects were taken into custody for further investigation.

Tight police security has been put in place for the Raigad Zilla Parishad vote counting process. The police administration has taken special precautions in Mahad, particularly in view of the controversy during the Mahad municipal elections.

Raigad district has witnessed direct political confrontation between Shiv Sena and the NCP BJP alliance, prompting heightened security arrangements.

Two electronic voting machines were found in a car near an eatery in Maharashtra’s Solapur district, prompting the State Election Commission on Sunday to promise strict action while clarifying that the sanctity of the poll process had not been compromised as the devices were reserve units.

Elections to 12 Zilla Parishads, including Solapur, and 125 Panchayat Samitis were held across Maharashtra on Saturday.

The machines were discovered around midnight in a car hired for an official on election duty near Hotel Swarajya in Mohol town. The incident led several political parties to allege possible tampering.

An NCP candidate later raised concerns about transparency in the polling process and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.

In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, police have prohibited victory processions after the declaration of Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti election results, citing the model code of conduct. Authorities have appealed to winning candidates and supporters to celebrate responsibly and avoid any law and order problems.

The Solapur Zilla Parishad election results will be declared today after the completion of vote counting. Around 16.2 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the district on February7. The voter turnout this year has declined compared with the 2017 elections.

Elections to 12 Zilla Parishads and their corresponding Panchayat Samitis were held in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Parbhani, Dharashiv, Latur, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Kolhapur, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. The results for all these Zilla Parishads are scheduled to be announced today.
