New Delhi:

A fire erupted at around 2:15 AM on Saturday in a three-storey house belonging to a scrap dealer in Indore city. Station House Officer Anil Gupta said the blaze was triggered by a short circuit. The house stored foam and sponge materials in the front, which helped the fire spread quickly.

Thick smoke causes suffocation; one child dies

The fire filled the house with thick black smoke, and the narrow structure had only one entrance with no smoke outlet. Six family members on the first floor fell unconscious due to suffocation, though none suffered burn injuries. Despite rescue efforts, an 11-year-old boy died of suffocation.

Injured family members hospitalised

Five injured family members, a couple, their two daughters, and a son—were rushed to a nearby hospital. Four of them are currently on life support. Rescue teams also saved another family of four living on the second floor by climbing a nearby tree.

Investigation underway

Authorities are investigating the cause and circumstances of the fire to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
