New Delhi:

Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt was arrested by Udaipur police in Mumbai on Sunday in connection with a Rs 30 crore cheating case filed in Rajasthan. According to Mumbai police officials, Rajasthan police will apply for transit remand for Vikram Bhatt in Bandra court on Monday.

Moreover, Vikram Bhatt, his wife Shwetambari Bhatt and six others have been accused of defrauding Udaipur-based Dr Ajay Murdia, founder of Indira Group of Companies, of Rs 30 crore. Two other people have already been arrested earlier in the same case.

For the unversed, the arrest came after an FIR was filed on November 17, 2025, by Dr Ajay Murdia, who accused Bhatt, his wife, and six others of cheating him under the pretext of producing films, including a biopic on his late wife.

A Udaipur doctor says film director Vikram Bhatt cheated him of over Rs 30 crore by convincing him to fund several movies, including a biopic on Bhatt's late wife, with the promise of earning Rs 200 crore after their release, according to officials.

As per the police, Dr Ajay Murdia, son of the late Dr Ajay Murdia and a resident of the area near Govindpura MB College, filed a complaint against film director Vikram Praveen Bhatt and his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt, who live in Andheri West, Mumbai.

According to the complaint, the biopic was discussed, and Bhatt and his wife allegedly told Murdia that if he put in an initial Rs 7 crore and continued to fund the projects, they would make four films for Rs 47 crore, promising returns of Rs 100-200 crore. However, the fraud was committed through fake bills made by the accused, the police said.
