'And it begins': Rajkummar Rao starts shooting for Sourav Ganguly's biopic titled Dada

Rajkummar Rao started the shooting for his upcoming film, 'Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story', which is the biopic of legendary cricketer and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly.

Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao has started filming for the much‑anticipated biopic, titled 'Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story', based on the life of cricket legend Sourav Ganguly. The actor on Wednesday announced the start of the shoot with a post on social media.

The film is directed by critically acclaimed director Vikramaditya Motwane, known for his projects like Black Warrent, Udaan, and Jubilee. It is produced under the banner of  Luv Films, which is famous for hits like Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, De De Pyaar De, and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. Read on for more details.

In the carousel post, the first picture featured a clapboard with the film's title 'Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story'. The second picture shows Sourav Ganguly's stand at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. For the caption, he wrote, "And it begins …The one and only #DADA @souravganguly @motwayne #LuvRanjan @gargankur82 @luv_films." Take a look below:

 

Several Bollywood celebrities, including Farah Khan, Aparshakti Khurana, Huma Qureshi, and others, reacted to the post with congratulatory messages. Karan Johar, Bhumi Pednekar, Nushrratt Bharuccha, Kunal Kemmu, and Varun Dhawan also liked the post. Farah Khan commented, "All the best raaajjjjj," while Neha Dhupia wrote, "All the best!"

Moreover, director Vikramaditya Motwane also shared a picture of Sourav Ganguly's stand at Eden Gardens Stadium. He captioned the post as, "Take your seats." 

Rajkummar Rao's work front

On the professional front, actor Rajkummar Rao was last seen in crime thriller Maalik alongside Manushi Chhillar. He has several projects in his pipeline which includes Netflix's film Toaster which is slated to hit the digital screens on April 15, 2026. He is also part of Aditya Nimbalkar's project titled Raftaar which also stars Keerthy Suresh.
