2016 has been the year of major box office clashes. First it was clash between Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’ and Rajinikanth’s ‘Kabali’. Soon Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Mohenjo Daro’ embroiled in the box office battle with Akshay Kumar’s ‘Rustom.

And now it’s time for the third and much hyped clash between Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ and Ajay Devgn’s ‘Shivaay’.

Both the movies have been managed to be in the limelight and grabbed the eyeballs ever since it was announced. The box office battle between ADHM and ‘Shivaay’ also made it to the headlines as it ended the years’ long friendship between Karan Johar and Kajol.

Moreover, the controversy regarding the Pakistani actors also raised the anticipation level for the clash.

Despite belonging to different genres, the competition between the two was tough and everyone was inquisitive to know who finally emerged as the winner.

Since day one KJo’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead has been having an upper hand at the box office. The movie did a marvellous business on the day of its release and minted Rs 13.30 crore. Besides, Ajay Devgn’s ‘Shivaay’ also did a decent business of Rs 10.24 crores on first day.

As expected both the movies continued their magic on the second day and earned similar figures on day two. However, hopes were high that the Diwali weekend will do wonder for ‘Shivaay’ considering its association with Lord Shiva.

But much contrary to the expectations, Diwali brought a slight dip in the earnings of both ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ and ‘Shivaay’.

According to the Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh, ‘Shivaay’ made a business of mere Rs. 8.26 crore on Sunday making its first weekend collection rake up to Rs 28.56 crore.

On the other hand, ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ too witnessed a fall and earned Rs. 9.20 crore on third day, making the weekend collections of Rs. 35.60 crore.

However, the overseas collection for ADHM came as a sigh of relief for the makers as the movie has done a commendable business Rs. 41.05 crore in the opening weekend.

Interestingly, this has made ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ the highest opening weekend for both Karan Johar and Ranbir Kapoor.

Well, this is indeed a good sign for Ranbir, who is in desperate need to deliver a hit, given that most of his last releases has bombed at the box office.

As per Taran Adarsh, though the Diwali festival turned out to be a dent on the box office collections of both the movies, it is expected the both ‘Shivaay’ and ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ will have a rise in earning in the coming week.

Only time will reveal if Ajay Devgn’s ‘Shivaay’ will be able to pace up to be KJo’s ADHM at the box office or will ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ be the ultimate winner.
