Bollywood actor Sunny Deol on Tuesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in presence of Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Piyush Goyal in New Delhi. He had met party chief Amit Shah in Pune, last week.

Deol is famous for his roles in movies of patriotic genre -- like 'Border', 'Indian' and 'Gadar-Ek Prem Katha'.

"I cannot talk much; I don't believe in it. I will work more and talk less. Always," Sunny Deol said, flanked by two of the most trusted ministers in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet.

Sunny Deol added, "My father had worked with Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji; now I will work with PM Modi. We will take the nation forward."

Deol's father Dharmendra is also a part of the saffron party. He joined the party soon after his second wife, veteran actress Hema Malini, became a BJP member.

Hema Malini is contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Uttar Pradesh's Mathura constituency.

"Sunny Deol is an inspiring personality. His movie 'Border' has always inspired millions," Sitharaman said, while announcing Deol's induction into the party.

"We are confident Sunny Deol ji will leave a mark on Indian politics too, as he did in the movies," Goyal said, in Deol's praise, adding, "the reason he could act so well in patriotic movies is he is a patriot by heart. A person has to be a patriot in order to act so well. Dil se aati hai woh baat."

It is, however, not been announced yet if Sunny Deol will contest the polls; though speculation is rife that he may contest from Punjab's Gurdaspur seat.

Another Bollywood actor, late Vinod Khanna, had earlier represented Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat from the BJP.
