New Delhi: Microsoft has released its 3D Builder app, which allows Windows 8.1 users to print 3D objects.

The app offers a great way for amateurs to start doing 3D printing, provided that they 1) have a Windows 8.1 machine, and 2) have a Windows 8.1-ready 3D printer.

It is a simple app that provide a basic way to print common 3D objects, as well as to import other files from SkyDrive or elsewhere. However the customization one can do through the app is limited.

Building on the 3D printer driver MakerBot released earlier, the app offers preconfigured objects it can produce – including LEGO-style bricks, clips, and pendants, though also ranging to more complex designs like toy trains. The app can also be used to create things from scratch.
