Anant Kumar Singh, also known as Chhote Sarkar, has asserted his political dominance in the Mokama constituency, securing a decisive victory in the Bihar Assembly Election 2025. Anant Kumar Singh's political resilience shines through
Despite his controversial background, which includes facing multiple criminal charges and serving time in jail, Singh has retained his massive popularity in Mokama. Known for his distinctive style—white attire and dark sunglasses—Singh continues to hold a deep connection with voters, often referred to as a "man of the people." His influence in the region remains as strong as ever, cementing his position as one of Bihar’s most enduring political figures.
Veena Devi trails, seeing decline in votes
Singh's victory over Veena Devi is a significant blow for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Devi, who had hoped to capitalize on the backing of the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance), saw a decline of 28,206 votes compared to previous results. Despite strong competition, Singh’s sustained grassroots support proved difficult for Devi to overcome.
The tight Race: A distant third for Jan Suraaj Party
The contest saw an unexpected shift as Priyadarshi Piyush of Jan Suraaj Party, led by Prashant Kishor, finished a distant third with just 19,365 votes, a sharp drop of 72,051 votes compared to his previous performance. Piyush’s campaign failed to resonate with voters, and the widening gap between him and the top two contenders became more apparent as the rounds progressed.
At Round 13 of vote counting, Singh had already secured a commanding lead with 49,299 votes, gaining 16,246 votes. Meanwhile, Veena Devi was trailing with 33,053 votes, and Piyush’s numbers continued to plummet, registering just 9,272 votes.
Mokama: A seat with a strong political legacy
Mokama has long been a hotly contested constituency in Bihar, and Anant Kumar Singh’s name has been synonymous with the seat for nearly two decades. He has won the seat multiple times, including as a JD(U) candidate in 2005 and 2010, and as an independent in 2015. Though he joined the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in 2020 and won that year’s election, his political career faced a setback in 2022 after he was disqualified following a criminal conviction. His wife, Neelam Devi, contested the subsequent by-election and emerged victorious. Now, with his return to JD(U), Singh aimed to reclaim his seat, and the results show he has done so decisively.
Singh's atronghold in Mokama: An indomitable political force
The election results confirm that Anant Kumar Singh has not only reclaimed his seat but also solidified his status as a key political figure in the Bihar Assembly Election 2025. Despite the intense competition from the RJD and the Jan Suraaj Party, Singh's grassroots support and strong political presence in Mokama helped him retain the seat, demonstrating his ongoing influence in the region.
This victory is a testament to his political resilience and marks another chapter in his long-standing association with the Mokama constituency, making him an undeniable force in Bihar’s political landscape.
