Nitish Kumar stakes claim to form government in Bihar; oath ceremony today | Updates

Kumar was unanimously chosen as NDA's legislative party leader in the Bihar Assembly. He is set to take the oath as Bihar Chief Minister for the tenth time on November 20. Earlier in the day, Kumar was elected as leader of the JDU legislature party in a meeting at the party office.

Patna:

Nitish Kumar on Wednesday resigned as Bihar Chief Minister. He submitted his resignation to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, which has been accepted. Kumar has, however, been asked to continue as caretaker CM. Besides tendering resignation, Kumar staked his claim to form the new government in Bihar.  

This came after Kumar was unanimously chosen as NDA's legislative party leader in the Bihar Assembly. He is set to take the oath as Bihar Chief Minister for the tenth time on November 20.

Earlier in the day, Kumar was elected as leader of the JDU legislature party in a meeting at the party office.

The newly elected BJP lawmakers chose Samrat Choudhary as their legislative party leader and Vijay Kumar Sinha as deputy leader.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new government will be held at Patna’s historic Gandhi Maidan tomorrow. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other BJP leaders and Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states are expected to attend the event amid tight security arrangements in the capital.

The NDA secured a dominant victory in the recent assembly elections, winning 202 of the 243 seats, led by the BJP with 89 and JD(U) with 85.
