Bihar Election Results 2025: NDA retains lead, but RJD claims maximum vote share amidst setback

In Bihar's 2025 Assembly elections, the NDA is set to retain power, securing over 200 seats, with BJP and JD(U) leading the charge. Despite this, the RJD emerged with the highest vote share at 22.80%.

As the counting of votes in Bihar’s 2025 Assembly elections continues, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) seems set to retain power, securing a comfortable majority. However, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), led by Tejashwi Yadav, has found a silver lining in what looks like one of its worst performances. Despite trailing in the seat count, the party has emerged as the leader in terms of vote share.

RJD secures highest vote share, but trails in seat count

The RJD has secured 22.80% of the vote share, the highest among all parties, surpassing its competitors BJP (20.65%) and JD(U) (18.90%). This marks a significant achievement for the opposition party, but the joy is tempered by the fact that they are currently leading in only 27 seats of the 243-member Bihar Assembly. If these trends hold, it will be the RJD’s second-worst electoral performance in the state since 2010, when the party secured only 22 seats.

RJD claims maximum vote share

While the RJD may have garnered the most votes, the NDA is dominating the seat count. With 201 seats in its favor, the NDA looks set to form the government once again. Of these, BJP is leading in 95 seats, JD(U) in 83 seats, and smaller allies such as Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) are also contributing to the alliance's victory.

Opposition allies struggling behind

The opposition bloc, the Mahagathbandhan, has found itself struggling to make significant inroads. The Congress leads in just 4 seats, while CPIM(L) Liberation and CPI are ahead in 4 and 1 seat, respectively. This poor performance by the opposition allies highlights the challenges faced by the RJD’s coalition, which has failed to capitalize on its vote share advantage.

The NDA’s performance is primarily driven by the strength of its key players, the BJP and JD(U). Notably, Chirag Paswan’s LJP has secured 19 seats, while Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM is ahead in 5 seats. Smaller partners like Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha have also contributed with 4 seats.

The Jan Suraaj Party, led by Prashant Kishor, and the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), led by Mukesh Sahani, have failed to make a significant impact, with both parties trailing in all the seats they contested.
