Madurai: The Madras High Court yesterday ordered a notice to Tamil Nadu government on a Public Interest Litigation, seeking a direction to remove portraits of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa from government offices.

Justices V Dhanabalan and V M Velumani ordered the notice to the Chief Secretary and the Public Secretary, except Jayalalithaa who had also been included as a respondent and sought  the response in two weeks.

The petitioner, an advocate, had also sought a direction that government schemes named after Jayalalithaa when she was in power should not be displayed as she has been convicted by a court.

The portrait of Chief Minister O Panneerselvam should be displayed and the schemes named after Jayalalithaa be replaced by the present CM's name, the petitioner submitted.
