Chennai, June 1 : The SSLC (Class X ) results were announced in Tamil Nadu on Friday with a pass percentage of 89 per cent being registered and nine girls from different districts topping the list.
The girls secured 498/500 marks while the number of students scoring centum in Mathematics and Science registered a massive increase.
Two girls, one from Puducherry and another from Chennai, scored 499 but they had opted for Sanskrit as first language while Tamil is taken into account to determine the official toppers.
According to the results released by D Vasundaradevi, Director of Government Examinations, 29,905 students scored centum in Mathematics this year, a quantum jump compared to the 1141 in 2012.
A total of 38,154 students in Science and another 19,680 in Social Science lso scored centum in the respective subjects this year. The figure was 9237 and 5305 for Science and Social Science, respectively in 2012.
A little over 9.35 lakh students out of the 11.19 lakh who appeared for the exams passed, registering a pass percentage of 89 per cent, against the 86.20 per cent last year.
More girls passed the exams.
Nine girls emerged toppers from various districts including Madurai, Tirunelveli and Cuddalore.
A total of 52 students with a score of 497 came second while over 130 bagged the third rank.
