Andaman and Nicobar Islands reports 1 more COVID-19 positive case

Andaman & Nicobar Islands has reported another COVID-19 positive case after a man in his late 20s on Monday tested positive for coronavirus, taking the number of coronavirus positive cases in the Union Territory to 10, officials said.

Andaman & Nicobar Islands has reported another COVID-19 positive case after a man in his late 20s on Monday tested positive for coronavirus, taking the number of coronavirus positive cases in the Union Territory to 10, officials said. He was part of a group of people that had gone to Delhi to attend a religious programme and returned to Port Blair via Kolkata on March 24, they said. The man has been admitted to the GB Pant Hospital, where a 48-bed isolation ward was set up to attend to coronavirus patients. The islands, home to several vulnerable tribes, have been put on alert following the COVID-19 outbreak.

On March 27, Andaman and Nicobar Islands reported its second positive case of coronavirus. The man who was tested positive had travelled with the first positive COVID-19 patient of Andamans. The Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Islands said that both the patients were kept in an isolation ward of a hospital and required protocols are being followed. On Thursday, the coronavirus positive case was reported from Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The person had travelled from Chennai to the Islands.

So far, 27 states and union territories in India have been affected by novel coronavirus among which Maharashtra and Kerala hold the highest number of cases with 121 and 110 respectively. In a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19 virus in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called a nationwide 21-day-long lockdown which started from March 25. PM Modi urged people to stay home and maintain social distancing to prevent the transmission of coronavirus.
