A post has been doing the rounds on social media claiming that the Government of India has launched a scheme to provide free smartphones to economically backward students. A video by a YouTube channel "Sarkari Vlog" claimed that under the 'Free Smartphone Scheme 2023', the central government is giving ₹10,200 in their accounts to 2 members of each family to get a smartphone. But when the facts of this news were checked, this claim turned out to be fake, and the central government is not running any such scheme.

Regarding this claim, the government agency PIB has informed me that this claim is completely fake. PIB FactCheck stated that the government does not run any such schemes. According to PIB Fact Check, the central government is not giving smartphone phones to people on ration cards. This claim is completely misleading, and the dissemination of such information is an offense under the law. Be warned that such claims may be an attempt to scam you. Do not share your personal or financial information with anyone.

Not an official announcement

When we went to the YouTube channel named Sarkari Vlog, we saw that this video is about 3 months old. Mostly similar videos have been uploaded on this YouTube channel, and its subscribers number close to 5 million. When we saw this video, it mentioned the Free Smartphone Scheme 2023, but no information was given about where and on which government platform this information was released. No information has been given in the video regarding when and where the Central Government will announce the Free Smartphone Scheme in 2023.

Fake webpage

Not only this, but the webpage shown in this video for the Free Smartphone Scheme 2023 is also completely fake, not an official website of any central or state government. In this video, an attempt has been made to mislead the viewers by claiming that the fake webpage is a government website.
