Shoddy arrangements by Railways led to fatal stampede at Allahabad

Allahabad/New Delhi/Kanpur, Feb 11: While the UP government had made elaborate arrangements to smoothly handle the over 3 crore influx of pilgrims at Kumbh Mela, by dividing the Mela grounds into different sectors, the Railway



A female pilgrim practically lost her mental balance and went hysterical on hearing the news of death of her father, with whom she had come on pilgrimage.  The duo were  at Allahabad station waiting for their train, when the stampede occured. 



An ITBP subedar, who had come with his wife to Kumbh Mela, said, laathi charge by RPF men was the cause behind the stampede. The subedar lost his wife.  

Babita, a 34- year old woman,  died in  the stampede. She had come with fourteen members of her family from Delhi.
