New Delhi: In a victory of sorts, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday evening called off his two-day-long sit-in protest after the Centre ordered two Delhi policemen to proceed on leave pending completion of the judicial probe.

An elated Kejriwal told cheering supporters that this was a victory of the people. "It is a first step towards our goal of attaining full statehood for Delhi", the chief minister said.

"We will continue our efforts to make Delhi Police accountable", Kejriwal said.

Minutes earlier, the Lt Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung issued a press release announcing that the SHO of Malviyanagar police station and the PCR in-charge of Paharganj have been asked to proceed on leave pending completion of judicial probe.
