National University of Singapore (NUS) topped the rankings for the first time, while Korea's KAIST rose from the sixth to second place. University of Hong Kong was at third place.
As far as Indian institutes are concerned, IIT Madras ranked No.53, IIT Kharagpur was No.60, IIT Roorkee was at No.70 and IIT Guwahati at No.95.
Compared to last year and barring IIT Delhi, all of these institutes have slipped in the rankings.
President Mukherjee is Visitor to 98 higher educational institutions in India, including the Central Universities, IITs, NITs, IISERs, IISc, Indian Maritime University and IARI Nalanda.
The President has been actively advocating the need for improving the quality of higher education to return our country to the days when Nalanda and Takshashila enjoyed global prominence, a Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson said.
