Dhanteras marks the beginning of Diwali festivities. Also known as Dhantrayodashi, on this auspicious day, Hindus worship Lord Kuber and Goddess Lakshmi for wealth and prosperity. It is believed that on this day, Goddes Laskhmi emerged from Samundra Manthan carrying a pot of wealth. This year Dhanteras will be celebrated on November 5.

On Dhanteras, people buy precious gems, metals, utensils and costly items. They decorate their house with lights, rice flour, flowers, rangolis, etc. Making imprints of little feet with rice flour at the entrance of the house is an important part of the tradition.
