Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections 2018: Congress releases first list of 155 candidates

Former state CM Arjun Singh's son Ajay Singh has been picked to contest the election from Churhat seat. MP Kantilal Bhuria's son Vikrant has been fielded from Jhabua seat.

After days of intense deliberations and speculations, the Congress on Saturday evening released the first list of 155 candidates for Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections 2018. The Congress, which has often been targeted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for promoting dynasty politics, has given tickets to several relatives of senior party leaders.

Veteran Congress leader and former Madhya  Pradesh CM Digvijaya Singh's brother and son have been included in the list of candidates, another former state CM Arjun Singh's son Ajay Singh has been picked to contest the election from Churhat seat. Digvijaya's son Jayavardhan Singh has been given ticket from Raghogarh, while his brother Lakshman Singh will contest from Chachoura seat

MP Kantilal Bhuria's son Vikrant has been fielded from Jhabua seat. 

Polling for 230-seat Madhya Pradesh Assembly will he held on November 28 and results will be declared on December 11.

The Congress' list of candidates has been announced just days after reports emerged that  Digvijaya Singh got into a spat with Jyotiraditya Scindia during a meeting over ticket distribution in presence party president Rahul Gandhi. 

However, Digvijaya had later refuted reports and said there were fissures in the party.

"It is being wrongly reported in the press that I and Jyotiraditya Scindhiaji had any argument and Rahulji had to intervene. All of us in Madhya Pradesh Congress is one and determined to defeat the corrupt BJP government (sic)," Digvijaya Singh had said in his tweet.
